The benders have been going missing, and the race is dying out. There can be up to three groups of assorted people - humans, benders, and shapeshifters - and an infinite number of lone people, but the odds of finding the problem is much better with at least one of every type of person.
It is the year 40-KI-94, far into the human future. The apocalypse is ancient history by now, but it set humans back horribly far, and mutated some of them. Benders, they were called. Benders were at first rejected by the other humans, but they were gradually accepted. It was found that non-benders couldn't have bender children, while bender/non-bender couples and bender couples could.
The Hunter-
The Hunter is what is taking the benders. It is a massive creature of legend, and few think it actually exists. No one knows what happens to the benders it takes, but no one has ever returned. Child benders are never taken, no benders under the age of twenty. The risk of being taken apparently increases with age. No benders over the age of forty remain.

Humans-
Well, you're humans. Shouldn't need an explanation.
Shapeshifters-
Congratulations! You started out as humans, but anyone can learn to shapeshift. You may have only mastered your basic form, and you have a long way to go, but the start is that hardest bit.
Benders-
You're a dying race of people. Bending is being able to control the world around you, to a certain extent. It is a genetic thing, so is you have a bender parent, you're most likely one, too, but recently, no bender children have been being born. Something's wrong, and it's up to you- and your friends -to find out.
For a little more on benders, most benders specialize in one element. Only a few can control all of them. The basic ones are air, fire, earth, and water, but there are also stormbenders.
Stormbenders control the weather, for the most part. Lightning, rain, thunder, clouds, sunshine - they've got it all. There's only a few stormbenders, though, so finding one is rare, like finding a bender who can control every element. Because of this, I'm only allowing three, maybe four, and at most two per group.
